Not even the biggest of haters can deny that Skepta is killing it at the moment, the Tottenham MC has gone from strength to strength throughout the previous few years and still promises more to come in future. He has dropped anthems like "That's Not Me" and "Shutdown", been brought out on stage on two separate occasions, by Kanye West and Drake, and is largely accredited for taking grime to thousands of new fans in the United States.
Consequently, AIM Independent Music Awards, who celebrate "the real heroes" of music, are honouring Skepta with the prestigious 'Outstanding Contribution to Music Award' at this year's ceremony on September 8th. Sponsored by Merlin, the award recognises the independent sector’s most important and influential artists, with Skepta praised for his tireless involvement with grime over the past decade.
AIM Awards judge and 1extra presenter MistaJam said:
“Since grime was born out of the ashes of UK garage, Skepta has been a pioneer of the sound, of the DIY business model and the culture. DJ, producer, writer, MC, record label boss and performer – there’s no denying Skepta has put in the blood, sweat and tears for the last 10 whole years and now, as he stands on the cusp of true international acclaim, it feels right to award Skepta for his immense contribution so far to British music.”
Our favourite Skepta tune at Pear Shaped, has to be 'Thats Not Me'. If for some mad reason you somehow haven't heard it, listen below. Absolute game changer!!!
